ラップランド大学美術学部/芸術的思考と表現のクラスでの講義、ロヴァニエミ市、フィンランド

Title：｢The backgrounds to my works, My Father’s House and Northern Lights｣

 

ラップランド大学美術学部/芸術的思考と表現のクラスの学生さん向けに45分間の講義をしました。

4つの内容をお話しました。1つ目は岩手で撮影している作品「父の家 -My Father’s House-」と制作の背景についてと、主に東北地方の歴史と文化に関するものです。二つ目に、ラップランド大学内ギャラリー･コピオに展示している写真作品「Northern Lights」の制作過程と、フィンランド北部に残る文化の研究についてです。三つ目は、東日本大震災のあとに制作しました映像作品「浜辺のまち -Seaside Town-」について紹介しました。南相馬市で7年間撮影した写真と、テキストの朗読で構成したもので、震災前から地域に伝わり残されてきた風習とその変化を伝えています。

最後に、青森県で出会った手仕事「裂織」の取材を通してピンホールカメラで制作した作品”Layers of Time”を紹介しました。裂織は、古くなった布を裂いてもう一度織ったもので、漁師の衣類サグリやこたつ掛けなどとして代々作られてきました。フィンランドでは、多くの家の床の上に同じように織られたマット”Räsymatto”が使われているのを見ることができました。また、伝統的な日本の紙にサイアノタイプをプリントする方法についてもお話しました。

フィンランド北部と東北地方での作品紹介とプロジェクトについて、学生のみなさんにお話する機会をいただいたことにとても感謝しています。

 

I gave a lecture for students of the Lapland University of Art and Design faculty in the class of “artistic thinking and expression” for 45 minutes.

I talked four contents in the lecture. One is about my lifework, “My Father’s House” which photographs were taken in Tohoku Region, northern part of Japan. It’s mainly about the history and culture of Tohoku Region.

Second is about the research in northern Finland and the process of my new works that I exhibited as photo works “Northern Lights” at the Gallery Kopio.

Third is about the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred in 2011, the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster, and the thoughts of the people presently living in the area. I introduced my short video “Seaside Town” which taken in Minamisoma city for 7 years. That described customs and oral tradition that has remained since long time ago before the disaster occurred.

Finally, I introduced one traditional handicraft “Sakiori” which I encountered in Aomori Prefecture. By researching Sakiori, I made a new work “Layers of Time” by pinhole camera. It was woven again by tearing the old cloth. I could see the same handicrafts at each house in Finland as “Räsymatto” on the floor.

I also explained about how to make cyanotype prints on traditional japanese paper and making prints by handmade pinhole cameras.
