Artistic Team LAAVUのアーティストたちは、写真家の千葉奈穂子(日本)、彫刻家･写真家のアンティ・ユロネン(フィンランド)、リサーチャー・作家・キュレーターのカイサ・ケラター(フィンランド)です。それぞれの国の地方に暮らし、自身の視点でその土地の声に耳を傾け制作しています。展覧会では、近代化などの影響により、変化する場所や環境の中で、地域の暮らしと結びついている「土地の静かな物語」を共有します。

The artists of the Artistic Team LAAVU, photographer Naoko Chiba (Japan), sculptor-photographer Antti Ylönen (Finland), and researcher-writer-curator Kaisa Kerätär (Finland), have background of living and working in rural areas, and they want to listen to the voices of Land from their perspective. This exhibition shares ‘the silent stories of the land’ which connect the place, the environment, as well as the physical and spiritual life of local people amid changes due to modernization.

Artistic Team LAAVU
Artistic Team LAAVUのアーティストたちは、写真家の千葉奈穂子(日本)、彫刻家・写真家のアンティ・ユロネン(フィンランド)と、研究者・作家・キュレーターのカイサ・ケラター(フィンランド)です。2015年以降、地域研究を基に、その場所に応じた視覚芸術のプロジェクトを続けています。

Artistic Team LAAVU includes photographer Naoko Chiba (Japan), sculptor-photographer Antti Ylönen (Finland), and researcher-writer-curator Kaisa Kerätär (Finland). Together they have been conducting research-based and place-responsive visual art projects since 2015.

千葉奈穂子　Naoko Chiba

写真家。岩手県生まれ。現在、山形県酒田市在住。岩手の過疎地に建つ家族の古い家と集落を1998年から撮影している作品 《父の家 My Father’s House》 は、千葉の最初の被写体であり、生涯をかけて制作を続けている。 東北地方で長く共有されてきた暮らしや土地の歴史と背景を探りながら、写真古典技法のサイアノタイプやゼラチン・シルバー・プリント等を用いて写真制作をしている。
2011年の東日本大震災と原発事故の後から福島県南相馬市に通い、集落の風習と人々の思いを綴っている作品 《Seaside Town 浜辺のまち》 や、フィンランドのラップランド地方に残る地域文化とダム湖建設で無人になったムテニア村を撮影した作品 《Northern Lights》 など、震災や近代化の影響により変わりゆく暮らしと、北方の豊かな風土を、写真とエッセイを用いて綴っている。また、各地の美術館などで、写真ワークショップ講師として写真技術も教えている。
Naoko Chiba is a photographer, who was born in Iwate Prefecture, and is currently based in Sakata City, Yamagata Prefecture. Since 1998, she has worked on My Father’s House, a photographic series and lifelong labor of love that documents an old house and the surrounding village in a depopulated area of Iwate. Using early photographic techniques such as cyanotype printing and gelatin silver prints, she continues to explore the history and background of the lifestyle and land long shared throughout the Tohoku region, the northern part of Japan. Chiba’s photographs and essays highlight the changes to the rich life and culture of the north in the face of modernization and natural disasters.
Her body of work includes Seaside Town, a work in which she repeatedly visited Minamisoma, Fukushima Prefecture, to experience the local culture, talk to residents, and photograph the area for seven years following the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011; and Northern Lights, in which she visited Lapland in Finland in search of traces of regional culture and documented the small village of Mutenia, which was deserted after the construction of a dam in the 1960s. She also teaches photography techniques as a workshop lecturer at museums throughout the country.

アンティ・ユロネン　Antti Ylönen

アンティ・ユロネンは、80年代半ば陶芸家としてキャリアをスタートし、長年彫刻表現に重点を置き、素材は粘土から木材へと変化し、時間と感情を主なテーマとしている。トルコ、インド、スペイン、イタリアなど海外での展覧会も多い。日本でも数回展示し、そのうち2回は遊工房アートスペース(東京)のアーティスト・イン・レジデンスで制作活動した。2003年、福島県南相馬市に2ヶ月間滞在し、南相馬市民文化会館のために公共の木彫作品を制作。2021年10月にデンマークを訪れ、ティコン・トラネカール国際芸術自然センターで、環境アート作品を制作した。
近年、表現の一環として彼は、彫刻と並んで写真表現も重視している。写真家として初の展覧会に、フィンランドのオウル市にあるノーザン・フォトグラフィック・センターで、千葉奈穂子とともに開催された展覧会「Silent Stories of Land」がある。
「私の写真は、一種の写真絵画、または、都市の自然写真です。私は身の回りの細部、主に建築環境に見られるものを観察していますが、それらはしばしば腐敗や変質と関連しています。」
Antti Ylönen started his career in the mid-eighties as a ceramicist, but over the years he has focused more on sculptural expression and the material has changed from clay to wood. The main themes in his art have been time and emotion. He has also spent working periods abroad, for example in Turkey, India, Spain and Italy. In Japan he has been working several times, twice in the artist residency of Youkobo Art Space in Tokyo. In the year 2003 he spent two months in Minamisoma creating a public wooden sculpture for the local Concert Hall. His latest visit was to Denmark in October 2021, when he made an environmental art piece in TICKON-Tranekaer International Centre for Art and Nature.
As part of the expression, alongside the sculptures, photography has become important in recent years. His first appearance as a photographer took place at the Northern Photograph Center in Oulu, Finland in the exhibition ‘Silent Stories of Land’ together with Naoko Chiba.
’My photos are a kind of photographic paintings or urban nature photographs. I observe the details around me, found mainly in the built environment, which is often associated with decay and decomposition.’

カイサ・ケラター　Kaisa Kerätär

カイサ・ケラターは、生物学者、キュレーターであると同時に作家としても活動している。彼女は、人口の少ない北部地域の郷土史と、国境地域における人々のアイデンティティ、伝統的な生態学的知識や、地域特有の口承の伝統に関心を持つ。
2021年以来、ウェルカム・トラストのハブ・アワードを受賞した世界的な学際的ネットワークLand Body-Ecologies(LBE)と協力して、彼女はソラスタルジアという、環境の変化と精神と生態系の健康の深い相互関係から生じる苦痛を探求してきた。彼女の記事は、環境問題を扱うブログや北部フィンランドの文化誌に掲載されている。
カイサ・ケラターはフィンランドのラップランド地方で生まれ、彼女の家族のルーツは、森のラップランド(サーミ)文化にあり、そこでは狩猟、漁業、トナカイ飼育などの自然に基づいた生計が、何世紀にもわたって地域で維持されてきた。
Kaisa Kerätär is a biologist and curator as well as a writer, and she is interested in the local history of sparsely populated northern areas, people’s identity of border regions, traditional ecological knowledge, and place-specific storytelling traditions.
Since 2021, together with the global transdisciplinary network LandBodyEcologies (LBE), recipients of the Wellcome Trust’s Hub Award, Kaisa has been exploring solastalgia, i.e. distress emerging from environmental change and the deep interconnections of mental and ecosystem health. Her articles have been published in blogs and northern culture magazines dealing with environmental issues. Kaisa Kerätär was born in Finnish Lapland, and her family roots are in Forest Lapp (Sámi) culture, where nature-based livelihoods like hunting, fishing and reindeer husbandry have been sustained locally for centuries.

10月7日の土曜日には、アンティ・ユロネンさん、カイサ・ケラターさん、私の三人のアーティストトークを行いました。展覧会のコンセプトや各作家の作品などを、文章、写真、動画でご紹介しました。2時間半の長いトークになりました。

On Saturday October 7th, there was an artist talk by Antti Ylönen, Kaisa Kerätär and me.We introduced this exhibition concept and presentations of each of our works by using text, photos and videos.

彫刻家で写真家のフィンランド在住のアンティ・ユロネンさんは、フィンランド、トルコ、日本、デンマークなどで制作し展示されてきた彫刻作品とともに、近年の写真作品では、日本、ドイツ、デンマーク、イタリア、エストニア、フィンランド、スウェーデン、イギリスなどで撮影してきた写真作品のご紹介と、日本との関わりについてお話してくださいました。

Mr.Antti Ylönen, sculptor-photographer living in Finland, gave a talk about the sculptures works he has created and exhibited in Finland, Turkey, Japan, Denmark, and other countries. In addition, he has been focusing on photographic works in recent years, and introduced the photographic works he has taken in Japan, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, the United Kingdom, etc. He also talked about his relationship with Japan.

 

生物学者で作家でキュレーターのフィンランド在住のカイサ・ケラターさんは、フィンランドと東北地方で行ってきたLaavuチームとの共同の研究と出版について講演してくださいました。また、彼女の最近の職業上の活動に加えて、彼女の住む土地や物語との個人的なつながりや、地域の風景との精神的なつながりについても話してくださいました。

Ms.Kaisa Kerätär, a biologist, writer, and curator living in Finland, gave a talk about researching and publishing with Laavu team in Finland and Tohoku area. In addition to her recent professional activity, a short introduction of her personal connection to land and stories, and about the spiritual connection to the landscape in her community.

 

私は、岩手で1998年から撮影している作品「父の家 My Father’s House」や、2018年にフィンランドで撮影した作品「Northern Lights」、2011年の東日本大震災と東京電力福島第一原子力発電所事故の後から福島県南相馬市の集落で撮影し、今回展示している写真作品「Seaside Town 浜辺のまち」の撮影の経緯や、集落のみなさんから教えていただいた、大切な土地との関わりについてお話ししました。

I talked about the work ‘My Father’s House’, which I have been photographing in Iwate since 1998, and the work ‘Northern Lights’, which I photographed in Finland in 2018. In addition, I talked the background of the photographic work ‘Seaside Town’ that I took in a village in Minamisoma City, Fukushima Prefecture after the Great East Japan Earthquake, tsunami, and the nuclear power plant disaster in 2011, and about the important relationship between the land and the people that I heard from residents.
