私は、岩手の過疎地にある父の実家とその集落を、生涯の大切な被写体として長年撮影している写真作品 『父の家 My Father’s House』 に取り組み、農村地域の文化と近代化の影響で変わりゆく暮らしを、写真とエッセイで表現しています。
この展覧会 『父の家 My Father’s House』 では、父の家のある集落でこれまで20年以上撮り続けている写真の中から、新しいプリント群を展示します。様々な時代の痕跡や、土地と人との関わり、家族や集落の方々から伺った自然環境の変化から見えてくる洞察を、心に刻みながら描いている作品です。

 

For many years, I have worked on ‘My Father’s House’, a photographic series and lifelong labor of love that documents my father’s former family home and the surrounding village in a depopulated area of Iwate. Through photographs and essays, I try to express the cultures of agrarian areas and their changing ways of life in the face of modernization.

In this exhibition, entitled ‘My Father’s House’, I am showing a group of new prints from the photographs I have taken over the past 20 years in the village where my father’s house is located. It serves as a way for me to remember and depicts the vestiges of bygone eras, the relationships between the land and people, and insights heard from family and other villagers about changes to the natural environment.
